Carnival recycles discarded soap to help communities in need worldwide

Carnival Cruise Line is to donate 40 tons of recycled soap each year to communities in need worldwide after becoming the first large-scale cruise operator to partner with Clean the World, the global sustainability programme.
Discarded soap is already being collected from guest and crew staterooms throughout the fleet for recycling into 400,000 new soap bars to be distributed to vulnerable communities worldwide.
The new programme, rolled out across its entire North American fleet by the end of July, is one of multiple initiatives underway to further reduce waste disposal and recycle additional products used on board.

Extra UK preview sailing for early-bird Celebrity Apex

imageThe highly anticipated inaugural season of Celebrity Apex has been expanded as the ship will now be completed ahead of schedule and enter service in the UK earlier than anticipated in 2020.
An additional four-night sailing out of Southampton - Celebrity Apex’s launch port - will depart on 1 April and call at Bruges, followed by an extended port of call in Amsterdam. The sneak preview costs from £889 for an Oceanview stateroom, based on two people sharing.

Explorer David Sinclair to lead expert team on Crystal Endeavour

David SinclairCrystal Expedition Cruises has appointed seasoned explorer David Sinclair as expedition leader for Crystal Endeavor that launches in August 2020.
Sinclair, who has spent over two decades traversing all seven continents, will be involved in the planning and development of the vessel’s shoreside excursions as the vessel sails to the farthest reaches of the world
“It’s a privilege to share my passion for nature and exploration with Crystal’s guests and help ensure they return enriched by the fabulous experiences and education programmes we’ll be offering during Crystal Endeavor’s global itineraries,” says Sinclair.

Husband and wife Hollywood film duo give their insight on QM2

Celebrated film director John Landis and his wife, master costume designer Deborah will headlining Cunard’s Insight Programme when they join Queen Mary 2 on her transatlantic crossing to Southampton from New York departing 18 August.
During the seven-night voyage the pair will offer Q&A sessions, lectures and a screening for guests to get a behind-the-scenes look into the world of motion pictures.
John Landis’s films include Trading Places and An American Werewolf in London, while his wife created signature costumes for Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark and the kingdom of Zumunda for Coming to America.

French speciality restaurant La Mer to feature on Princess Cruises’ newest ships
image Princess Cruises are to introduce French speciality restaurant La Mer on its two soon-to-arrive ships, Sky Princess and Enchanted Princess. The restaurant made its debut on Majestic Princess in 2017.
La Mer is the creation of the three Michelin-starred chef, Emmanuel Renaut, who has worked in restaurants including Claridge’s and Hotel de Crillon. It will offer casual, French bistro-style dining and be located in the Sky Princess atrium.

PONANT and Interpol partner to beef up maritime security
image As part of efforts to further strengthen security for the global cruise industry, Interpol is expanding its I-Checkit programme to include PONANT cruise line.
The roll-out of the passenger screening system across PONANT’s cruise operations follows a successful three-month pilot scheme.
The integration of I-Checkit enables Interpol to undertake the secure screening of travel documents, including its global database of stolen and lost travel documents which contains more than 87.5 million records from 177 countries.
