American Cruise Lines launched its biggest ever Mississippi season this week as American Melody became the first of five riverboats to set sail on the Lower Mississippi.

Over the next few weeks, four more riverboats will join Melody cruising between New Orleans and Memphis marking the company’s largest season ever across the country, especially on the Mississippi where American has plans for continued expansion.

This year, the company’s new riverboats will sail more than 16 itineraries throughout the region, also exploring Mississippi tributaries, the Tennessee, Ohio, and Cumberland Rivers.

Over the past five years ACL has nearly tripled its US fleet while also introducing brand new riverboats on the Mississippi River every year since 2018.

The company recently announced five more ships, including new riverboats, are under construction at American’s affiliated shipyard, Chesapeake Shipbuilding, in Salisbury, Maryland.

Following this week’s opening on the Mississippi, the company’s full fleet of 19 other small ships and riverboats will continue deploying across the country, visiting more 140 ports this year.
