Carnival Cruise Line has moved Carnival Legend’s operations out of Baltimore in the wake of the tragic incident that resulted in the destruction of the city’s Key Bridge, pictured, earlier this week.
While the rescue and remediation efforts continue in Baltimore Harbor, it will temporarily homeport Carnival Legend in Norfolk, Virginia.
The ship will be returning from its current voyage on Sunday (31 March) but instead of heading for Baltimore it will disembark 230 miles downstream in Norfolk. A complimentary bus service will transport passengers back to back Baltimore.
Carnival Legend’s next seven-day cruise will operate round-trip from Norfolk.
“Our thoughts remain with the impacted families and first responders in Baltimore,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
“We appreciate the pledge made by President Biden to dedicate all available resources to reopen Baltimore Harbor to marine traffic as soon as possible.
As those plans are finalised, we will update our future cruise guests on when we will return home to Baltimore, but in the meantime, we appreciate the quick response and support from officials in Norfolk.”
