Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic joined members of The Scenic Group to celebrate the commitment made by the company to build five new custom vessels in the Rijeka shipyard.
Plenkovic was joined during the weekend visit by Sasa Coklijat, Director of MKM Yachts, and master of Scenic Eclipse, British Captain James Griffiths, as he toured the 228-guest Discovery Yacht .
The vessel, pictured below, was launched in August 2019 and was christened in New York City by Dame Helen Mirren on 10 September.
The yard visit coincided with construction beginning on Scenic Eclipse II, the second Discovery Yacht from The Scenic Group in their ocean fleet also being built at the Rijeka shipyard.
The Scenic Group recently completed an agreement with the Croatian Government to commence shipbuilding operations in a dedicated separate section of the existing Maj 3 Shipyard in Rijeka.
The newly formed business MKM Yachts – wholly owned by The Scenic Group – will take full responsibility for all new Scenic ocean ship builds in their fleet starting with the construction of Scenic Eclipse II and followed by a further four custom built vessels over the next six years.
All vessels will be of the highest 6-star standard.
