Supermodel Christie Brinkley to christen Seven Seas Splendor in February
The world-famous supermodel and successful entrepreneur Christie Brinkley, top of page, will add another string to her bow in Miami on 21 February when she becomes godmother of Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ new ship, Seven Seas Splendor.
And she won’t be taking the role lightly as tradition states that she not only christens the vessel but is responsible for bestowing good luck over the ship and to all guests and crew who sail her.
Says Brinkley: “As a woman who strives to inspire other females to achieve their career and personal aspirations, I’m especially proud to be Godmother of the first new cruise ship in maritime history to be captained by a female, the trailblazing Captain Serena Melani.”

Cruise Heroes’ announced as theme for CLIA Conference 2020
The theme for the 2020 CLIA UK & Ireland Conference in Southampton in April will be Cruise Heroes.
The flagship three-day conference, from 26 to 28 April, is the largest travel agent conference in the UK, and was attended by 700 travel professionals this year.
Cruise Heroes celebrates the cruise industry community, shining a spotlight on the people across the globe who work hard every day to create holidays of a lifetime.
Pioneering NASA spacewomen christen Sky Princess
Princess Cruises officially named its newest ship, the 3,660-guest Sky Princess, at a ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, earlier this month, with former NASA engineer Frances Northcutt, left, and former NASA astronaut Captain Kathryn Hire, right, serving as godmothers.
Northcutt was the first female mission control engineer when NASA made history with its mission to the moon. Hire served as Captain in the US Navy reserve before blasting into to space for the first time in 1998 as a mission specialist on the space shuttle Columbia.
Princess president Jan Swartz said: “Captain Kay Hire and Poppy Northcutt remind us all of what we can achieve when we aim for the sky.”

First guests welcomed at MSC Cruises’ Ocean Cay private island
MSC Cruises earlier this month welcomed the very first guests to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, its new private island destination in The Bahamas.
MSC has transformed the island from what once was an industrial sand excavation site into a stunning tropical destination and has worked with environmental engineers and other experts to revitalise the surrounding ocean beds, marine life and endangered coral.
Following MSC Davina’s first call to the island, above, all four of MSC Cruises’ North America-based ships – MSC Armonia, MSC Divina, MSC Seaside and MSC Meraviglia – call at Ocean Cay on different days.
