Falklands war veteran Simon Weston will be onboard Balmoral in 2023 when the ship visits the islands as part of its epic 78-night voyage to South America and the Antarctic.

Weston will join guests on the 14-night cruise, which will call into Port Stanley, and will share his experiences of his time on the Falklands.

Simon, who sustained serious burns to almost half of his body when the troop ship Sir Galahad was attacked by Argentine fighter planes in 1982, is well-known for his charity work, as a motivational speaker and broadcaster.

He is currently the Patron of the Falkland Veterans Foundation, The Enham Trust, Allied Service Trust and an Ambassador for Changing Faces.

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines spokesperson Helen Bennett said: “Simon’s story is one of achievement and triumph in the face of adversity, and we know our guests will value learning more about his journey and about the Falklands War.”

Setting sail from Southampton on 5 January, Balmoral’s voyage will allow guests to discover some of the most fascinating, lesser-visited parts of the world, including the Galapagos and Patagonian Fjords, as well as iconic landmarks of Rio De Janeiro, the ancient sites of Machu Picchu and the idyllic beaches and lush green lands of Ilhabela.
