US authorities have extended the No Sail Order for cruise ships that can carry more than 250 passengers until the end of September.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supported the 19 June decision by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) to extend voluntarily the suspension of cruise ship travel until 15 September.
But it has now gone one step further by extending its No Sail Order to 30 September to ensure that passenger operations on cruise ships do not resume prematurely.
From 1 March to 10 July, 34 deaths and 2,973 COVID-19 or COVID-like illness cases on cruise ships were reported. These cases were part of 99 outbreaks on 123 different cruise ships.
