You may be forgiven for thinking it’s an April Fool’s Day leg-puller but the new Icon of the Seas will have a Chief Dog Officer on board when the ship enters service next week.
And the lucky dog getting all the attention of crew and guests alike is golden retriever Rover who will live onboard while serving as the “family dog” of Icon’s crew.
Rover also had pride of place beside Captain Henrik Loy on the bridge as he steered Icon into Miami for the first time last week (see top of page).
Five-month-old Rover had boarded the ship in Puerto Rico with Chief of Staff Alison Hubble, pictured left .
Royal Caribbean said in a social media video: “As a crew member on the Icon, Rover’s job is to bring joy and happiness to her fellow crew and guests onboard.”
