Explorer of the Seas
One of the most innovative ships afloat
Like her sister-ship, Voyager of the Seas, the 138,000-ton Explorer of the Seas boasts some of the most innovative shipboard amenities to be found at sea.
The Voyager-class ships were the first vessels to offer vacationers an ice-skating rink, a rock climbing wall 200ft above sea level, full-court basketball and interior staterooms with views of a shopping, dining and entertainment boulevard.
In early 2015, Explorer underwent major upgrades, including the replacement of the inline skating rink with a Flowrider surfing simulator. A further major refurbishment, scheduled for 2020, has been put on hold.
Other exciting features include
- A Johnny Rockets restaurant
- 1,350-seat theater
- Golf course and golf simulator
- More than 15,000 sq ft dedicated to health and fitness
- One of the largest casinos afloat
She also features the cruise industrys first atmospheric and oceanographic laboratories, staffed by world- class research scientists.
Created in partnership with the University of Miamis Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, the science facilities help researchers find answers to some of todays most significant questions in atmospheric, ocean and climate research.
