Independence of the Seas

New features make Independence of the Seas even more extraordinary

Independence of the Seas, the third in Royal Caribbean’s Freedom class of ships, was launched in 2008 and has become a popular holiday option for those wishing to cruise from Southampton to Europe and the Mediterranean.

And new features took the ship to new levels of extraordinary when she set sail in summer 2018 following a multi-million pound makeover.

Independence boasts lots of new and exciting activities like the interactive aqua park Splashaway Bay, bigger and better than ever before and featuring wild waterslides, water cannons, fountains, pools and the infamous drench bucket.

Extending the speciality dining onboard, Izumi, the exotic Asian-inspired dining experience, gives guests the chance to enjoy fresh sushi and experience high-flying hibachi chefs cooking tableside on Teppanyaki grills.

New lounges and Panoramic Ocean View staterooms feature wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling views so that guests can soak up the feeling of standing on the bridge of the ship and watching the sunset over the coastline, all from the privacy of their own stateroom.

Independence also hass an all-improved Ice Rink, as well as a revamped theatre ready to wow with the much-loved Broadway show, Grease.

Features including an Escape Room, top deck trampolines, and a laser tag arena, are also part of the makeover plans.

Onboard highlights include a FlowRider surf simulator, rock climbing wall, ice skating rink and H2O Zone waterpark. And new Oasis-class features introduced in an April 2013 makeover included the Cupcake Cupboard and a giant outdoor cinema screen.

At the same time the Royal Promenade shopping street running the length of the ship underwent a number of enhancements to the existing onboard shops.
