Crystal Cruises has suspended operations until at least the end of April in the wake of yesterday’s decision by its owners Genting Hong to wind up the company as it was running out of cash.
Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity and expedition ship Crystal Endeavor have been laid up until 29 April, with river cruises being put on hold to the end of May. All current cruises will be completed.
As well as Crystal Cruises, Genting owns the Star and Dream Cruises brands. Its MV Werften shipbuilding operations in Germany also became insolvent earlier this month.
A statement issued by Crystal Cruises said: “Suspending operations will provide Crystal’s management team with an opportunity to evaluate the current state of business and examine various options moving forward.”
