The floating out of Sun Princess, the first of two liquefied natural gas (LNG) Sphere class cruise ships for Princess Cruises, took place at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone yard in Italy today.
The 175,500-ton ship is the largest so far to be built in Italy, as well as the first LNG cruise ship ever built by Fincantieri and the first dual-fuel vessel powered primarily by LNG to enter Princess’s fleet.
Sun Princess will be delivered early next year, with a sister-ship following in 2025. Each will accommodate approximately 4,300 guests.
Princess also announced that it has appointed Gennaro Arma as captain, leading Sun Princess shipbuilding operations, readiness and delivery, and overseeing the ship’s final stages of construction.
He will be working closely with brand’s naval architects, engineers and shipbuilding experts, as well as the shipyard management team.
The ship will offer an array of exciting new dining, entertainment and activity offerings. She will be highlighted by amazing, never-before-seen spaces such as The Dome, a transformational entertainment venue inspired by the terraces of Santorini, the next-level, brand-iconic Piazza, and three-storey Horizons dining room.
