Now you can learn the Haka on a Princess cruise

If you have ever fancied learning the Haka war dance, then here’s your chance with Princess Cruises.

Princess has enhanced its so-called Across the Ditch programme, which offers guests first-hand insight into a range of New Zealand cultures, traditions and experiences, including the Maori war chant made famous by New Zealand’s All Blacks rugby team.

Learning the Haka is among the shore experiences in 2018

Across the Ditch is a term used by locals to describe travelling by sea between Australia and New Zealand.

The programme, available both onboard and on land, will roll out during the course of this year.

50 new shore excursions being introduced in 2018 include:

  • Bush and beach tours in Auckland
  • Lord of the Rings tour in Akaroa
  • Gourmet walking tour in Wellington
  • Zipline tour in Waiheke Island
  • Visit to the Maori Matariki Festival

A range of onboard activities are also on offer including Haka lessons.

A new menu will be launched featuring a traditional Maori ‘Hangi’ dinner. Authentic local beers and wines will also be available to buy onboard.

Tony Roberts, Princess Cruises’ vice president UK and Europe, said: “Our Across the Ditch programme was created to embrace a wide range of local experiences both onboard and on land. It has proved enormously popular with our guests so we have expanded it accordingly; now there is even more to see and do with Princess Cruises in this amazing part of the world.”

Majestic Princess will sail from Sydney to Auckland on a 12-night cruise departing 6 December calling at Hobart and Melbourne in Australia, along with Fiordland National Park (scenic cruising), Dunedin (Port Chalmers), Akaroa and Tauranga in New Zealand. From £1,419pp with $100pp free onboard spend for first and second passengers.
