MSC can finally bag up the bunting as Virtuosa float-out brings month-long celebrations to close

The float out of MSC Virtuosa at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, has capped a frenzied month of celebrations for the company.

It all kicked off with the delivery of MSC Grandiosa on 31 October with the the first steel of MSC Europa being cut on the same day.

This was followed a week later with Grandiosa’s christening by Sophia Loren in Hamburg, when it was also revealed that from 1 January MSC Cruises will become the world’s first fully carbon neutral major global cruise line.

MSC Virtuosa float out

MSC Virtuosa is moved to Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s wet dock, above and top of page,  where construction will continue

Now work is moving on apace with MSC Virtuosa, the second Meraviglia-Plus ship after MSC Grandiosa, moving to a wet dock for further construction and fitting until she is delivered in October 2020.

The sixth MSC Cruises ship to enter service since 2017, MSC Virtuosa will be as highly equipped as MSC Grandiosa with cutting-edge technologies designed to minimise and continuously reduce a cruise ship’s environmental impact.

MSC Virtuosa’s maiden voyage will be a 7-night six-port Western Mediterranean cruise in November 2020 from Genoa, Italy.

After a winter season in the Med, the ship will spend summer 2021 in Northern Europe with itineraries to the Norwegian fjords and Baltic capital cities.
