Dimitrios and Tasos Kafetzi, pictured, made maritime history as the first brothers to jointly captain a cruise ship at sea when they successfully put Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship Celebrity Ascent through her paces.
During the traditional shipbuilding process known as sea trials, they coaxed the ship through a series of functional and operational tests, which she passed with flying colors.
Dimitrios and Tasos Kafetzis shared the the helm to oversee the intricate tests conducted in the notoriously tricky Bay of Biscay near the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in St Nazaire, France, where Celebrity Ascent has been under construction.
In addition, nearly 200 crew members were onboard to test equipment from bow to stern.
