Viking has released details of new ship Viking Libra, the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship capable of operating with zero emissions.
Already under construction at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard in Italy, the revolutionary ship i is scheduled for delivery in late 2026. A second hydrogen-powered ship, Viking Astrea, is also under construction and scheduled for delivery the following year.
The ships are the same in every other respect as their sister ships in the fleet.
The hybrid propulsion system, based partially on liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells, will make her capable of navigating and operating with zero emissions, allowing the ships to access even the most environmentally sensitive areas.
