Cunard’s flagship ocean liner Queen Mary 2 experiences a rare meeting in New York Harbour with Queen Elizabeth – the Royal Navy’s powerhouse version as opposed to her more glamorous sister ship.
The two iconic vessels crossed paths during the aircraft carrier’s first visit to the USA.
Queen Mary 2 and HMS Queen Elizabeth meet in New York Harbour
Captain Christopher Wells, Master of the QM2, said: “It is a huge honour to bring Queen Mary 2 to meet HMS Queen Elizabeth for the first time here in New York harbour with the opportunity to salute the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carrier which is the largest warship ever built for the UK.
“We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate HMS Queen Elizabeth’s new Commanding Officer, Captain Nick Cooke-Priest, on his appointment and his ship’s company on the successful flight trials with the Lockheed Martin F35-B off the Eastern Seaboard of the United States.”
