If there’s a Patron Saint of Cruising, then Jane McDonald must surely be it

Singer-turned-cruise ambassador returns to make more waves at sea

She’s back. Jane McDonald, High Priestess of the High Seas, has returned to our screens with her second series of cruising exploits and resumed where she had left off, extolling the virtues of floating holidays and leaving you champing at the bit to get your water wings on.

Her smile and light-hearted presenting style are infectious, and she never misses a chance to do what she’s originally famed for, belting out numbers with her powerhouse voice.

Jane McDonald took Viking Sky for a spin round the Baltic

This time it was as the fifth member of Abba during her visit to the museum of the iconic pop group in Stockholm. It was during the final stop of her Baltic cruise on Viking Sky and one can only imagine the Viking switchboard has been at full stretch after Jane had showcased the ship which joined the fleet in January this year.

It is certainly an eye-catching vessel and when Jane stepped into the owners suite on arrival, she was blown away by the best the ship has to offer, with separate reception rooms, sumptuous bedroom and a view to die for. Whether she spent the cruise in it or was just passing through wasn’t made clear, but I assume the latter.

She blissfully trod the streets – many of them cobbled – of Tallin, Helsinki and St Petersburg, as well as Stockholm – and in a short space of time managed to leave you feeling you had been there with her and enjoyed the Baltic ride.

A Kiwi friend of mine called in recently during a five-week European tour which had also featured a two-week cruise on the Viking Sky. He raved about the ship and the cruise, and his only concern was how he was going to shed the many extra pounds he was now carrying after indulging in so many finde meals on board.

So there you have it. Jane isn’t making it up for the cameras.

There are three more episodes of Channel 5’s second series of Cruising with Jane McDonald during which she will be river cruising in France, circumnavigating Cuba and cruising with MSC – for the second time which is strange – on its new fleet addition, the MSC Meraviglia. They will be airing on 8, 15 and 22 September at 9pm.

Jane McDonald is certainly a fine ambassador for the industry.

Maybe she should be nominated as Patron Saint of Cruising.
