Seven Seas Splendor keel laying marks major milestone of “work of art, from bow to stern”

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has provided a first glimpse of the luxurious suites and attention to detail guests will enjoy when Seven Seas Splendor takes to the waves in 2020.

At the keel laying ceremony at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy, on Thursday (28 June), two full-size suite models were unveiled as RSSC’s president, Jason Montague, promised “a work of art, from bow to stern”.

“Seven Seas Explorer has earned remarkable acclaim since debuting in 2016 as the most luxurious ship ever built. Now, her sister Seven Seas Splendor builds upon the success of that lauded ship as it strives to perfect uncompromised luxury on the seas,” he said.

“In our pursuit to exceed guest expectations, we are creating a work of art, from bow to stern. Wherever you turn on Seven Seas Splendor, you will be surrounded by elegance, comfort and hospitality.”

Montague and shipyard director Giovanni Stecconi commemorated the occasion by placing three coins onto the keel of the ship. In shipbuilding tradition, the coins will remain embedded within the ship’s structure for its entire life, inviting good fortune for all who sail aboard.

During the ceremony, the first two of 210 blocks that will comprise the approximately 55,000-ton vessel were lifted into the dry dock, officially marking the start of the ship’s assembly in the Ancona shipyard.

On show were mock-ups of Concierge and Penthouse suites which represent a majority of the suites on board.

When reservations opened for Seven Seas Splendor’s first 10 voyages, Regent had the best single booking day in the company’s 26-year history. As a result the company is moving up the opening of Seven Seas Splendor’s 2020 inaugural European summer itineraries to 12 July.
