We hoped we would never be in this situation again but regrettably cruise lines are once again taking a big hit because of the rapid spread of the COVID Omicron variant.
In this week’s developments, Regent Seven Seas has postponed the restart of two of its ships owing to “travel complications”. Seven Seas Navigator’s January start from Miami has been pushed back to March 9, while Seven Seas Voyager, pictured, will now resume sailing from Barcelona on 26 March instead of in February.
Hong Kong has slapped a ban on cruises until 20 January in a wide-ranging crackdown to “contain the epidemic as early as possible”.
Atlas Ocean Voyages scrapped its 6 January Antarctica expedition after several passengers and crew members tested positive for COVID-19 on its latest voyage.
Norwegian Cruise Line has cancelled a number of sailings and delayed the restart dates of some of its ships.
Oceania Cruises has called off its four January and February cruises in South America because of what it describes as “onerous and prohibitive restrictions for entry into Argentina by sea, combined with ever-increasing travel challenges in the surrounding region and extended port closures in Brazil”.
