Bang up to date with new experiences
Carnival Spirit ushered in Carnival’s move to Spirit-class ships when she arrived in 2001 with innovations such as the two-level promenade and the reservations-recommended steakhouse, and in 2012 spearheaded Carnival’s cruise ambitions in Australia.
Built by Kværner Masa-Yards at its Helsinki New Shipyard in Helsinki, Finland, Carnival Spirit was floated out on May 1, 2001, and christened by American politician Elizabeth Dole in Miami on April 27, 2001.
Eighty per cent of her cabins are on the outside of the ship, and of these outside cabins, 80 per cent have balconies.
In January 2012, Carnival Spirit went to dry dock and was updated to cater for those with a more adventurous spirt, including Carnival Waterworks (Waterpark at Sea), and the steepest waterslide at sea, a new creation, the Green Thunder.
And in 2025, after another dour-week dry dock, Spirit emerged with a new Heroes Tribute Bar, pictured right, while updates were also made to the Cloud 9 spa, fitness centre and retail shops, including a new Carnival Adventures Shop and a Dreams Studio.
A dedicated space for the Chef’s Table and a new mini golf course were added and new gaming machines installed in the casino. Additionally, the ship’s nightclub was refreshed and all youth programme spaces upgraded.
