A ship for screen goddess Sophia Loren to be proud of
Italian screen goddess Sophia Loren is MSC Cruises’ resident godmother, so it was perhaps only natural that one day one of its ships would be named after her.
MSC Divina is that ship.
Standing 18 decks high, the ship may prove to be as iconic as the actress herself, but never as beautiful. That would be an impossibility.
The actress had disclosed to Gianluigi Aponte, MSCs owner and a close personal friend, that she would one day love to have a ship named after her. It was a wish he instantly fulfilled by suggesting the name Divina, which means “divine”.
Built at a cost of £515m and christened on May 26, 2012, in Marseille, MSC Divina reflects the qualities of her sister ships, MSC Splendida and MSC Fantasia, with several enhancements as well.
These include:
- 100 additional cabins and a total of 45 disabled cabins
- Infinity pool in the aft
- Two additional lifts to improve passenger flow
- Total redesign of decks and restaurants will offer guests additional comforts
- Enlarged and redesigned MSC Yacht Club
- Redesigned casino, disco, theatre and MSC Aurea Spa and fitness centre
Measuring 1,094ft in length and 125ft wide, MSC Divina has a total of 1,739 cabins and is capable of travelling at speeds of up 23.7 knots.
