Costa Diadema

The largest cruise ship to fly the Italian flag back in 2014

Costa Diadema arrived in October 2014 to become, at that time, the largest ship to fly the Italian flag.

Costa Cruises invested approximately €550m on building the 132,500-ton, 306m long and 37.2m wide ship, which also boasts a total passenger capacity of 4,947, 1,253 crew members and 1,854 cabins.

The ship was bigger, more spacious and more modern in terms of the services offered. The layout of public areas were redesigned to incorporate large environments over multiple levels facing the sea, that recreate the atmosphere of a lively beachside resort, connected by pathways that allow guests to move freely from one area to the other.

Costa Diadema offers a variety of experiences and activities for guests to enjoy, from new and enticing gastronomic and tasting opportunities, in places like the Vinoteca and the Proseccheria, the Bavarian-style Birreria, the Japanese Teppanyaki, the Piazza Pizza pizzeria and the Gelateria, to fun-filled innovations such as the Country Rock Club or the Lazer Maze, a multifunctional room with interactive games.

Shopaholics will enjoy the Portobello Market Square at the heart of a 1,100 sq-m area filled with shops and can take full advantage of an outside walkway with cabanas and a 500m esplanade to enjoy the sun, the sea and beautiful panoramas while cruising.

The ship also offered a three-level Samsara Spa with an exclusive outdoor area where guests can enjoy their holiday in an atmosphere of total wellness and relaxation.

Costa Diadema’s 1,862 guest cabins offer superior comfort combined with top quality entertainment, food and wine. Her interiors are even cosier, spacious and more modern both in terms of facilities and layout of her public areas.

She also offers large, split-level rooms which directly overlook the sea and are conveniently interconnected, evoking the atmosphere of a buzzing seaside resort.

Food & Wine

Gourmet lovers can savour a myriad of different dishes in seven restaurants, offering new tasting treats from all over the world: the ‘a la carte’ Club Restaurant, the Samsara Restaurant, the Japanese Teppanyaki and the Italian Pizzeria, as well as the delicacies of quality Italian and Mediterranean cuisine of the two main restaurants and buffet restaurant.

Guests also have lots of opportunity to socialise with a choice of 11 bars on board. Options include: the Vinoteca Gran Duca di Toscana (wine house) with top quality Italian regional wines; the Birreria Dresden Green (beer house) offering a selection of bottled beer by the most prestigious Italian and foreign brands along with a range of draught beers; the Bollicine bar, the ideal place for an aperitif; the Gelateria, with a wide selection of delicious ice-cream and much morei.

Entertainment

On board the new flagship are new forms of fun and entertainment with the debut of the Country Rock Club, the place to go to hear legendary “Classic Rock” music; and the Star Laser room, featuring different styles of interactive laser games including the maze and shooting games, for fun with friends. Guests can also enjoy shows in the three-level theatre, go wild on the dance floor in the Disco and try their luck in the Casino.

Other recreational featuresinclude the 4D Cinema, an exclusive show involving all five senses, and a Grand Prix race car simulator that simulates races on some of the best international tracks. Video game lovers can dive into the virtual reality of the latest-generation games in the Video Arcade area. Shopaholics will love the Portobello Market Piazza, the heart of a 1,100m2 area consisting of designer stores and retail outlets.

For those who want to enjoy the sun, sea and spectacular ocean vistas, there’s an open-air promenade extending over 500m and three swimming pools, one with a retractable roof offering night entertainment with parties, live music, dances and animation. While parents and grandparents relax and enjoy the cruise, children can have fun in the Squok Club run free of charge by Costa’s professional entertainment staff.
