Oosterdam

Top class, morning, noon and night

The 1,916-passenger Oosterdam became the second Vista-class ship for Holland America with her maiden voyage from Harwich on 3 August, 2003. She joined sister ship Zuiderdam which made her debut in December 2002.

Oosterdam boasts a spacious design for public areas and staterooms, 85 per cent of which have ocean views, with 67 per cent of all staterooms sporting verandahs. Penthouse and Deluxe Verandah Suite guests also enjoy the use of a private concierge lounge.

The ship offers varied dining options, from elegant meals in the formal dining room to Pacific Northwest-styled steak and seafood in the dramatic alternative restaurant. Guests also enjoy full complimentary room service and casual breakfast, lunch and dinner served from multi-stations in the popular Lido Restaurant, Terrace Grill, and Pizza Bar.

And at the new Windstar Cafe you can relax in Holland America’s own coffee house with espresso drinks, smoothies, and baked goods throughout the day.

Polishing off the Oosterdam’s appeal is TheGreenhouse Spa and Salon, a renowned full-treatment spa, exercise facility and hair and nail salon; the multi-level Vista Show Lounge; and a second “cabaret-style” theater for late-night entertainment and daytime first-run movies.

Two interior promenade decks, an exterior covered promenade deck, Lido pool with a retractable dome, the Club HAL children and teens areas, and the signature Explorer’s Lounge and “Crow’s Nest” observation lounge are also featured.

In July 2009 Oosterdam celebrated a milestone with her 300th cruise. The Mediterranean sailing from Venice to Barcelona came a few weeks after extensive upgrades in Fincantieri’s Palermo Shipyard in Italy to add new guest staterooms, dining options, public areas and a specialty wine bar.

From the creation of new eateries – including the addition of Canaletto, a dedicated complimentary Italian restaurant – to the addition of 34 new staterooms, Oosterdam reflects spectacular and subtle additions from stem to stern.

Also among new enrichment programming are the Digital Workshops powered by Windows. Led by Microsoft-trained “techsperts,” the innovative and complimentary digital workshops teach the latest computer skills, digital photography and social media applications in a dedicated space with laptops.

Oosterdam also added the Explorations Cafe – powered by The New York Times – in the Crow’s Nest, a larger Pinnacle Grill restaurant and a Pinnacle Bar with a focus on specialty Northwest wines. To reduce waste behind the scenes, the ship installed an environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art “wet cleaning machine” (for dry cleaning).
