Christening ceremony … and then a wedding
In a “ruby red” themed ceremony celebrating romance, Princess Cruises named its newest ship Ruby Princess in a ceremony in Fort Lauderdale in November 2008.
Hundreds of guests were decked out in ruby red-tie formal attire, a ruby-haired singer serenaded the crowd, and as befitting the romantic cruise line, and an event celebrating romantic moments and milestones, the official naming was followed by the ultimate romantic milestone – a wedding in the midst of the festivities.
The Californian couple who tied the knot even had the Love Boat captain himself, Gavin MacLeod, to give away the bride.
Ruby Princess includes a dramatic piazza-style atrium featuring small-bite eateries and performing street entertainers. Passengers will also enjoy an array of dining venues including the signature Sabatinis Italian restaurant and the Crown Grill steak and seafood restaurant, plus a relaxing oasis just for adults called The Sanctuary.
