The tens of thousands of Fred Olsen fans who loved to cruise on Boudicca will be saddened to learn that she has been beached for scrapping in Turkey.
Following her sale in 2020 there was speculation that the 42-year-old veteran of the High Seas would become an accommodation vessel, but this proved to be wishful thinking.
Olsen took delivery of the ship – previously sailing as the Grand Latino in Spain – in October 2005 and she underwent an extensive refit before joining the fleet. Another major refit in March 2018 saw her refurbished from top to toe.
Originally built as Royal Viking Sky, the refit of the 28,388-ton vessel included the creation of several dedicated single cabins, in keeping with the companys tradition.
The ship also sailed for Norwegian Cruise Line, Birka Line, Princess Cruises, Star Cruises, Hyundai and Iberojet before joining the Olsen fleet.
Fred. Olsen sold the much-loved Black Watch at the same time as Boudicca and it remains to be seen if her fate is that of her sister ship.
