Founded in 2013 by the Australian-based travel company, The Scenic Group, Emerald quickly built a reputation that has been recognised with awards for style, modernity and innovation on the world’s rivers, waterways. and now oceans.
With the move into ocean cruising with its first luxury superyacht, Emerald Azzurra, setting sail in January 2022, the decision has been taken to merge Emerald Waterways and Emerald Yacht Cruises into the the single global brand, Emerald Cruises.

Emerald Luna becomes the ninth Star-Ship on the Emerald river fleet in 2021
2021 will also see the introduction of a ninth Star-Ship, Emerald Luna to Europe’s waterways. A second super-yacht, Emerald Sakara, will also be joining the ocean fleet in 2023.
Guests are also treated to a number of features on board its Star-Ships, from larger than average deluxe suites to the sun-deck, from a wide range of dining options to the innovative heated pool which, on selected evenings, seamlessly transforms into a cinema where you can watch blockbusters to classic films.
The first two ships, Emerald Sky, which was christened by Twiggy, and Emerald Star were launched in 2014 to sail the Rhine, Main and Danube.
The following year two further ships, Emerald Sun and Emerald Dawn, were introduced on the same routes.
Three further ships were commissioned in 2017 – Emerald Destiny, sailing the Rhine, Main and Danube, Emerald Liberté, sailing France’s Rhône and Saône, and Emerald Radiance on the Douro in Portugal.
