Ponant celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2023

Up-market cruising all over the world

Ponant, which celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2023, is well known for the originality of its itineraries and destinations, its tailor-made/themed ocean and explorer cruises, the quality of its services and elegant à la Française way of life.

Founded in 1988, Ponant, also formerly known as Compagnie du Ponant, Compagnie des Iles du Ponant and Ponant Cruises, is the only French-registered cruise company with a fleet of five exceptional ships: Le Ponant, Le Boreal L’Austral, Le Soleal, and the most recent addition to the fleet, Le Lyrial, which arrived in 2015.

Le Lyrial

Le Lyrial was the most recent ocean addition to the Ponant fleet in 2015

Whether you choose one of the 32 cabins on the three-mast sailing vessel Le Ponant, or the 132 luxurious staterooms on sisters Le Boreal, L’Austral, Le Soleal and Le Lyrial, you can be sure of an outstanding experience in a setting specially designed for your wellbeing and privacy.

On board everyone sets their own daily pace, free to enjoy the delights of a “select solitude” or to share convivial moments over the many activities on the programme.

Each of the luxurious yachts offers spacious suites, impeccable service and excellent food and wine – plus their small size allows them to reach destinations that larger ships cannot, and offer its passengers to sail in the company of experts and historians as guides and lecturers who are passionate about their subjects.

The small-capacity yachts offer chic cruising without the crowds, being small enough to reach ports that are inaccessible to bigger ships with destinations to Antarctica, Alaska & the Arctic, the Caribbean, Central & South America, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe & the Baltic, West Africa, Asia and the Pacific.

The latest eco-friendly technologies, attentive five-star service, bilingual crew, luxurious staterooms and suites, a gourmet cuisine and meticulously planned excursions designed to create emotionally moving experiences.

Since 2018 to 2021, Ponant has also welcomed six brand new and innovative Explorers-class ships Le LapérouseLe ChamplainLe BougainvilleLe Dumont d’UrvilleLe Bellot and Le Jacques Cartier, plus the polar expedition ship, Le Commandant Charcot.

We hadn't sailed with Ponant before, but are avid cruisers and would have to say that our experience on Le Laperouse has most definitely been the best to date.
